Rise Location: The Russian Caldera
[TAG: DECLAN, OPEN FOR SANCTUARY STAFF] Her muscles ached from the ascent topside. Boulders and rocks had fallen in the tunnels, barring her way, and Ranna had to move many of them on her way. Pushing, pulling, hitting. She had discovered muscles she even ignored. In her office in Praxis, she didn't have to fight with rocks. But Praxis was lost -- all the technology, the people -- it was gone forever. She didn't know who had managed to make it to the surface. She knew that when she would find her people, she'd find more rebels than actual Praxis residents, and the thought saddened her. The rebels had lived on the outskirts, and they had been closest to the escape routes. Ranna hated to admit that she would have like for the Praxians to be the lucky ones. Still, her fingers were crossed for her family, and she hoped she'd be able to find them soon enough. She was without news from her mother, her uncles and aunts, and her cousins and their children. Ranna had been the last one out of Praxis, as protocol dictated. She had been too late to run after her people to the surface, so she had hid in a crevice that was marked as a safe house. She had then waited the week-long safety period, eating the rations that were left in the safe spot. When the ground hadn't shaken in a week, she was able to reach the city and assess the destruction. It was even more horrible than she had thought. But there was nothing she could do, so she starting making her way up. She finally pushed the last rock separating her from the fresh surface air. The wind hit her in the face, and lift up a cloud of dust and sand from the ground of the tunnels. She rapidly put her arm against her face, hiding in the crook of her elbow as to not receive anything in her eyes. When the worst of the wind stopped, she looked up slowly. The land was a bit dried around her, yet she could see trees and plants a few kilometers in front of her. The air smelled fresh enough. It was different from Praxis. Their air passed through eight types of filters before finally being released in the city. It didn't smell of anything. The air she was inhaling now had different smells hidden inside it. She cringed at the pollution, but marveled at the smell of nature. 'Now, where to go?' She thought, looking around her. She didn't see anything that resembled civilization.

Post by OLIVIA GRACE WALKER on Aug 9, 2013 22:13:49 GMT 9.5
Olivia had just returned back to the Sanctuary after spending a week back in the states with her sister and her children. She rarely saw them, if only once or twice every year or so and even then she would only take a week or two at most off of work. She'd been asked to monitor all activity around the places where the abnormals from hollow earth had surface which she took to the moment she sat down at her workstation, happy to be back in the familiar and safe environment. As Olivia looked over all the data, satellite photos included. She reviewed the information quickly, knowing it was important to have their files updated as much as possible. Once she spotted Ranna on the feed, she downloaded the information onto a tablet and quickly set off to find Declan.

Declan leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes, trying to grab a moment's rest. Today was the weekly deal-with-everything-he-didn't-want-to-deal-with-day, and that included sifting through mountains of backed-up reports dealing with everything from false sightings to staff overtime. He groaned and sat up. Slogging through the reports, he started to hum to himself. It was an old habit, picked up from other soldiers during the long nights spent on sentry duty. He didn't often think back to his military days. Bad memories and old friends now dead still haunted him, but he always pushed it aside. He had new friends here, and many more responsibilities, some of which were dangerous but thrilling. Others, like today, strayed more towards the tedious side. Engrossed in his work as he was, Declan didn't notice Olivia, one of his best agents, walk into his office.

She slowly made her way on the desolated ground. There were a few green plants sprouting here and there, but most of the soil around her was bare of any vegetation. It was hard rock all around, and the whole area felt sad.
Ranna glanced behind her and sighed. She felt like she was leaving a giant piece of her in the underground city, and she probably was in a way. She guessed there were members of her family, close or far, that hadn't made it through to the surface, and that probably remained somewhere under the ruins.
She dismissed the depressing thoughts. No point in thinking about something she couldn't change. Instead, she She had no means of contacting the Sanctuary network. She had no money, no means of getting to a city besides walking. She was likely to die of hunger of thirst before making it to civilization. She wasn't usually a pessimistic person, but her situation didn't seem to have an easy way out. She didn't even know if she was going in the right direction. How to know when to turn right of left? Staying where she was wasn't going to be helpful either. Ranna didn't think anyone would come looking for her.
[OOC: Sorry for the late reply! Was moving to another town last week.]
