He hated it, hated how it felt like there was a giant wedge in the places where only his solid relationship with those around him had been before, he was scared it was just going to increase and intensify. Of all his years of being there, this was the year that he had made him made some choices he wasn't happy with, one of those choices was how much he was keeping from her. Even after all she had done for him, healed him when he was sick and pushed him when he was being stubborn and needed it. She was always there for him. His people had been different then humans, his people didn't nurture their young, didn't help them learn and grow to maturity, no but he had watched this happen around him and eventually Magnus had started to Mother him as well.
There were times he hated it, and practically resented her for it, but she always made up for her mistake when she realized what she was doing and backed down. Other times he'd just want to sit with her, have tea and a good chocolate bickie while hearing her tell stories, and with all the living they both had done, the stories would never run out. Even hearing the same stories over again never got boring. But he had closed off almost completely in recent months. He had chosen this, chosen this life for himself. One he knew he could leave at anytime, but he never really saw himself as being able to have an actual choice. It was either the Sanctuary or live in the shadows, he wouldn't go back to that life. Now, now things had changed the hope was turning into more of a reality that he could one day soon walk among the masses, without having to hide his appearance. To him there was only two options leave or stay, no in-between. He didn't want to choose, not now, not ever but a deeper nagging part of him told him he would have to face the world, alone. It would hurt. Change was inevitable.
There had been no one in the office when he first went in, it wasn't an unusual place to find him. Magnus kept a few of her best books in there for when work took too much a toll on her mind, he liked to sit and read by the fire. The current book in his had he must have read ten times. That wasn't the reason he was there, he had to talk to her, had to try. He wasn't sure how but he figured planting himself on her sofa was a good place as any to start. He kept an ear to the crack in the door waiting for her clackers to come down the hall.
