The dazzling sunset was a sight to behold in the dark Herusan eyes of Veron, as he sat near the lake of one of the New City parks. The park overlooked the river, which divided both New and Old City. The array of reds, oranges, and purples of the beautiful sunset was enough to put him in a trance-like state. In total awe of its beauty. This was his forth sunset since arriving on the Earths surface, and yet it seemed just as magical as the first time.
To Veron, the sun was indeed a curious ball of light. For a Praxian dweller, this was an unfamiliar experience and it left him speechless.
Since escaping from the complete destruction of the great city of Praxis, Veron had been struggling to find his place. He was a stranger here. Many other residents were herded by the surface dwellers and held in camps like animals trapped in a cage. It was against his values, and that of the other Herusans held captive.
It was suffocating, and caused him to despise the humans even more. He did not want to be here, but he didn't have a choice. He had no where else to go.
After Thelo's rebellion struck and chaos ensured, Veron took the opportunity to flee the camp and take shelter elsewhere. He prowled through the quiet of the night, like a predator, until he found his way to the park by the river. The soft glow of the light over the river, added another level of curiosity and magic to his senses. He sat close to the river-front edge, yet concealed amongst the curious floral plants which lined the path beyond.
There he sat, lost in his thoughts, and trying to come to terms with the disappearance of his parents since the fall of Praxis. He let out a soft growl, and his dark eyes glimmered in the setting sun. A snarl prominent amongst his chiseled jawline. He felt a mixture of emotions.
The most powerful one, was anger.

Jennifer let out a tinkling laugh, echoed by her daughter as she scooped her up and twirled her in the air before setting her back on the ground. She brushed her light blond hair with her fingers and kissed her on the forehead. Taking the little girl's hand, the two of them walked towards another woman, a bit older than Jennifer, and then the three sat down on the grass on the edge of the river.
The New City bank of the river was in a beautiful park that Stella, Jenn's daugther, loved to visit with her mom and nanny. Jennifer could hardly say no to Stella, and the office hadn't call yet to rob her of a precious moment with her family. And so here they were, cherishing some rare family time in the late afternoon. Susan, her nanny, accompanied them because Jennifer could never know when her cellphone would ring. The woman's company was more pleasant than Jenn thought however, and she found that she didn't mind having her around. Stella adored her, and Jennifer would do anything to make her little girl happy.
She watched as her eight-year-old child pulled on her nanny's hand to get her up, then started running, inviting the woman to follow her. Jenn laughed as Susan started to chase her daughter, the two of them running farther away in the park. Jennifer watched them with an amused smile until she could barely hear her daughter's laugh. She then let her eyes rest on the sunset before her, on the other side of the river, behind Old City.
It was a beautiful sight if it wasn't for the Old City Sanctuary to the far right, a predominant figure in the scenery before her and a constant reminder of the looming danger they were in. This world was infested with beings that shouldn't exist. But one day, they would be all gone, and her daughter would be free to grow up without fear. Jennifer would be forever thankful to SCIU for helping her seeing the light.
But today was a day free of the troubles of work, so she let her mind drift and closed her eyes, enjoying the warmth of the sun on her face.

Veron felt so out of place. This unfamiliar new world was daunting, and he wanted to go back home. If only there was anything left to go back to. Rubble now lay where the great city of Praxis stood tall and mighty. It was hard to believe his home was gone. All of it.
There was nothing left below the surface, except dust and ashes. Most likely the explosion tore apart through the walls, hindering the protective barrier against the lava pits surrounding it. He didn't even want to think how it looked now.
And here he was, alone, sitting along the river, surrounded by beautiful shrubbery and trees, with the sun setting above. The shadows lining his gaunt face changed, as the sun dipped deeper and deeper, slowly dismissing the glow it left behind.
He glanced down at his muddy, soot-covered hands. Only did he realise he was still wearing his Praxian work wear. Definitely out of this world. He huffed slightly under his breath, and gritted his teeth as he looked beyond the river. But as his acute Herusan senses began to kick in among the sickening silence, he heard something else.
Voices. He was definitely not alone.
He panicked, but managed to roll quickly to the side amongst the bushes next to him. With dark eyes glistening in the suns last rays, he scanned the park for the source of the voice. He slowed his breathing, allowing him to hear more.
Two voices.
He narrowed his eyes, and hoped that he was not followed. Veron was not a violent man by nature, but if by any chance he was provoked, his will attack. He didn't like to take unnecessary chances.
All his could do now, was wait until night truly settled in.

Her senses were always alert to anything and everything happening around her. They were even more acute when her daughter was nearby. Prior to coming to the park, Jennifer had scanned the river side to make sure nothing out of the ordinary laid around, with the Sanctuary so close, you never knew. But she had only seen other people and families taking advantage of the beautiful weather for a stroll or for some family time outside. She had deemed the area safe, or at least safe enough for a few hours outside with her daughter.
The sound of leaves crackling and moving made her spring to her feet. She felt observed and cursed her previous sense of security. They had warned her had SCIU, 'It's when no one's watching that you should be scared. Things go bump in the night.'
Only it wasn't night yet, so she thought they'd be okay lingering in the park for a while.
Jennifer scanned the perimeter around the river bank and as far as her eyes could see in the park. She hadn't been paying attention. She had allowed herself a minute of rest. This behaviour could get her family hurt if she wasn't careful.
Grabbing her purse from the floor, she waved to Susan. The nanny quickly stopped chasing her daughter and came back, hand in hand with the little one, to their spot on the grass.
"Get Stella to the car," Jennifer ordered the nanny, who then proceeded to grab their stuff on the ground. Susan knew better than to question her. "I'll join you in a moment," Jennifer added, indicating that they were to wait for her until further notice.
"Will you be okay Mrs. Magretta?" Susan asked right before leaving, her hand holding Stella's.
"Yes. Now, go," Jenn replied furtively, clutching her purse to her side, watching her family leave. She felt better knowing they were out of arms way, but that didn't stop her from sending a text to the main office, telling them to put a team on stand-by.
"I know you're here," she said nervously, her shaky voice betraying her. She wasn't a field agent. She had a gun in her purse, but that didn't mean she was ready to use it.

This definitely was an intriguing sight to behold. A human - Playing with her child in such an innocent fashion. Not something he was used to, since his father was an arrogant swine. It makes him wonder if this female was oblivious to the dark world around her. Had she known that any of his kind existed? It was rather difficult to tell. Usually those who knew would take precautions in such a location.
He watched with sharp, obsidian eyes behind the bushes, as the woman suddenly ushered her child to another female. Veron was indeed curious. There was something about this woman. Besides the fact that she was rather beautiful, but something about the way she carried herself. Disciplined. A woman of authority. It really wasn't difficult to tell. He noticed the way her eyes scanned around her, and the way her jaw set sternly. She was focused. However his senses were on alert, sending his negative vibes off the charts. It was not a pleasant feeling.
He shifted uncomfortably in his perch behind the bushes, and watched. But the next few seconds changed so suddenly, and the next thing he knew was that he was being called out. By the female.
'I knew it.'
Veron really was not a horrible man by nature. Sure, he was quite arrogant and unpleasant like his father, but he would rather negotiate then try and pick a fight. However, if for any reason he was provoked - He could get rather violent. Funny how it all turned out. The one man he couldn't stand, and he very well became exactly like him. And that made him bitter.
He huffed. She knew he was there, so there was no point denying it. Slowly, he rose up on his feet rustling the bushes as he did so. He dark eyes fixed on the female. He noticed her voice trembled slightly. Was she nervous? Unless the female had no idea where he was from. He could try and use that to his advantage. But for now, he would simply play along.
"You could try using manners. Surely it's a universal concept?" Veron shifted a few steps forward, but kept himself hidden under the newly forming shadows of the large oak tree beside him.
