personality:There is no question Nikola has an overinflated ego. He's obnoxious, arrogant, and hates to lose. He's constantly competing, even when the competition is perceived rather than real. He prefers working alone, and he typically views others as mere distractions. He is often quite vocal about feeling ordinary humans (or abnormals) are beneath him. They are hindrances to his work, and interfere with his focus.
Nikola's goal in life is to initiate the rebirth of his race, sanguine vampiris. There is little he would not do in order to achieve this objective. It can't be said he isn't proud of his heritage, and the history of his race has only fueled his ego. He feels, if vampires were once more in control, a new age of enlightenment and culture would occur, promoting peace and advancement.
Underneath his arrogance, disinterest, and thirst for world domination, Nikola has a surprising amount of vulnerability. Though, he hides it well, he is forever an optimist, and can sometimes view the world with the wonder of a child; but life has not always been kind to him, particularly during his earlier years. He learned to harden himself because, deep down, he is afraid of being hurt again. He makes a habit of not getting close or forming attachments.
As one might imagine, his personality has not won him an abundance of friends, and has earned him more than a few enemies, over the years; but in the end, Nikola's own worst enemy is himself.
history:Tesla was born in Smiljan, Croatia in 1856. Even as a child, he was bright, fascinated by electricity. This fascination, combined with other events in his early life, such as the death of his brother, led to him becoming the man he is today.
While at Oxford, Tesla met the remaining members of The Five. Together, they pushed the boundaries of science, feeding his need for discovery. Even then, he was arrogant, sure of himself, but after being injected with the Source Blood and discovering his true heritage, those traits became even more pronounced. Despite being a brilliant inventor, he has not always been the best businessman, and he suffered through several failed business deals, being cheated out of money and credit for his work. Finally, in 1943, Helen helped him fake his death.
For over forty years, he remained out of touch with the rest of The Five, but now, he is back. Though he spends the majority of his time thinking of new ways to achieve the rebirth of his ancestors, he has proven to be an ally of the Sanctuary, even if his assistance does always come with his own hidden agenda.

Finally tiring of staring at her bedroom ceiling, Helen slipped quietly out of bed with a frustrated sigh. It seemed it was going to be another sleepless night. Nikola didn’t seem to be having such troubles, and this once, she was grateful. He would only worry.
She was dressing casually more often these days, and she pulled on a pair of jeans and a loose-fitting top, hoping she wouldn’t wake Nikola in the process. With a final glance toward the bed, she slipped into the hall, silently closing the door behind her.
After a moment’s hesitation, she started in the direction of John’s room. She doubted he slept any more than she and Nikola did, and she was hoping he might still be awake. Everything had seemed to happen at once, and they had not truly had a chance to talk since their less than private conversation in the library. That seemed so long ago now, and so much had changed. Now, she was not only sleeping with Nikola, but carrying his child and planning to marry him.
She felt this was a conversation that was long overdue.
