personality:Karyn Guinness is the kind of woman who likes to stop in the middle of the street in New York and watch as people run past her, too busy, too lost on their thoughts to notice that she is standing on their way. She loves studying them, feeling them, feeling what they feel.
She is very pessimistic about almost everything, needing to sometimes panic before being able to refocus and solve a problem. She keeps her heart away from the public sphere for she dislikes the bitter taste of love that her family introduced her to.
She doesn't fear the silence, finding it to be everything but quiet. She enjoys the company of a good thunderstorm and a nice book, most of the times one that she has read a thousand times.
She believes that one must know the past to understand the future, ending up missing the latter and focusing on the former.
history:
Karyn Guinness was raised in England by a rather wealthy family. Her adoptive parents, both archaeologists, found her during one of their many trips to dig sites. They had just found out they couldn't have children and so, after letting the correct authorities know of their finding, decided to adopt the little girl with the big bright eyes. They spent most of their time travelling the world, often taking her with them as she seemed to appreciate the digs as much as they did.
The arguments started when they returned from a dig where an old and quite rare artifact was found. The day they brought it home was the day everything changed. Karyn felt the quick change on the atmosphere that had till then surrounded their peaceful family. Rage, pain and regret were more abundant than air.
For the first time since she could remember, there was no cake on her birthday. There were no guests and no gifts. There was nothing but tension... tension that led her parents to start yelling at each other at the table, causing her to quickly abandon it and hide on their office. There she stood, among memories of many pasts belonging to many different people. She could still hear them downstairs, blaming each other for everything and nothing. She doesn't quite remember how the lighter found her hand... she found herself in the middle of a cloud of smoke, the rare artifact being embraced by tall, red flames. She felt fear and then relief, not exactly sure to whom those feelings belonged.
She remembers standing by a window, looking down at her parents holding each other on the garden. She remembers seeing the firemen walking into the house through the front door, fighting the flames.
And then... then she remembers waking up as the plane landed.
She was in New York.
She was alone... but not for long.

hello! my name is Tess! and i'm excited to be here. i've been roleplaying for about 7 years now. other characters on this site that belong to me are none. my time zone is GMT. and that's all you need to know about me! oh, and this is what an average post for me looks like:
Karyn walked into her office and closed the door behind her. She walked towards her desk, using it to support herself as she took her shoes off. She sat down on her comfortable chair and allowed herself to close her eyes for a moment. She could almost feel her muscles dancing as she took a deep breath, letting the air out slowly. No rush, no stress, no nothing.
It had been one hell of a day.
She had spent the whole morning answering phone calls from journalists questioning the reason why she had been called into a crime scene before the police on the day before. She tried to explain it without giving out too much information but as they didn't seem too happy with her answers, she started picking up the phone, saying "no comments" and then hanging up. She knew it wasn't the smartest approach but she had other things to deal with, other things to think about.
She had to attend a diplomatic lunch and that meant she had to learn as much as she could about other people's feelings towards the possible existence of beings with special features, the abnormals. Since the incident on Hollow Earth the number of abnormals living on the surface had grown and so had the number of sightings and the number of people believing, and sharing that same belief with their communities, that this was the first sign that the world was about to end.
"If only you knew..." Karyn mumbled under her breath.
The lunch was supposed to take two hours but ended up turning into dinner as well. She had never smiled so much in her entire life while hearing people commenting on the so called monsters, monsters such as herself. If only they knew that the true monsters lived within themselves... if only they knew that the looks aren't what makes someone a monster, but what goes inside their minds...
She shook her head slowly, trying to make those thoughts abandon her mind. She was finally at home, she was finally able to relax and she truly deserved to do so.
