Joseph was bored, very bored. Having seen his last client for the day he sat in his office trying to decide his next move. He looked at his watch again 5.03pm ...Great... he thought, he had a date in 45mins and he was in no mood to go, all he wanted was a stiff drink before his real work started at 10pm. But even the thought of roughing up a few crime gangs didn’t have the same appeal as it once did, not so long ago the just the thought of it got him excited but now it just felt like another part of his day job. Joseph wanted more, he may have been one of the most sort after mercenaries in Australia but it was enough in his mind. He was the big fish in a very small pond but once the big fish had eaten the small fish that fish needed to move on if he was to become a shark.
Joseph pulled out his laptop from under his desk and punched in a few commands before finally loading up Google Earth. He stared at that globe for what felt like an eternity, even spinning it a few times with his mouse. "Where to go, Where to go" He said to himself, Japan maybe? No he ruled that out quickly, sure it would be easier to get money but after everything that's happened it wasn't worth it. Joseph wasn't that heartless, Europe maybe? Again Joseph ruled it out, too many people in the region similar to him and he was in no mood to deal with the Russian Mafia again. Then he looked at America, a country he knew he could slip into effortlessly, set up a business and use the contacts he had made without much fuss. "Perfect" he said, closing Google Earth he then punched in a few other commands before closing his laptop, his mind was now made up, America was that big pond he was looking for.
He looked outside his office and saw one of his workers Bill was still working at his desk. Joseph smiled of all the people he wanted to be here Bill was the perfect choice for the plan he now had in place. He walked to his door and called Bill in asking him to sign the document he had now placed in front of him.
"What's this Boss?"
"That Bill is the ticket to your new life"
"I...I don't understand"
"Bill I am giving you control of the company, I have decided to move to the US to start a new life"
"Are you serious?"
"I am Bill and all you have to do is sign this form"
Bill didn't hesitate in signing, on the surface it seemed like Joseph was doing an extremely generous thing and as he signed he had plenty of ideas on where to take the company. Joseph got up and shook Bill's hand, placed his laptop in his briefcase and walked out the door, the pleasant exterior Joseph had was shed as soon as he stepped into his car. As he was driving away he broke into a manic fit of laughter, Bill had just inherited a sinking ship. Joseph was unable to wipe the smile off his face for the entire trip home, just the thought of Bill going bankrupt made him feel good inside, overly happy people like Bill made him sick.
Joseph walked inside and pulled out his Blackberry and furiously typed out a succession of emails before putting it down and walking to the bar for a drink. As he poured himself a vodka screwdriver, the first of 6 emails came through each one more detailed than the next until finally the last email came through it had been one he had been waiting for.
See you in 24
Joseph slammed down his drink and walked to his room, packed a few things before heading straight for the airport. He was not a man who liked to sit around and wait, he wanted to hit the ground running and maybe catch a wave or two in the process. 45mins later Joseph arrived at Brisbane airport to the sound of his work phone buzzing in his pocket. He looked down and rolled his eyes, it was Samantha the woman he was meant to have a date with tonight. He considered not answering but he was in a good mood.
Hello
"Joseph, Hun where are you? I have been waiting for nearly an hour"
"I am at the airport, and I am leaving the country. I couldn't stand the idea of listening to you all night so I am outta here"
"But But...I thought you liked me?"
"Oh you stupid bitch, you were more interesting in bed than at the table"
It took Samantha 30 seconds before she hung up. As Joseph walked up to the ticket counter he was given a strange look by the woman sitting on the other side of the desk, he brushed it off and used his platinum card to buy the next first class ticket to the US.
"Enjoy your flight to New York"
"Oh don't worry I will"
New York City was about to have a shark enter its waters.
