Declan Macrae walked through the halls of the London Sanctuary towards his office. He had just returned from the Old City Sanctuary where he helped rescue a young Abnormal. Michael, the young Abnormal, has extraordinary powers and can do amazing things with EM fields. Declan knew and was friends with several Abnormals who could manipulate EM fields to some extent (including Nikola Tesla, at one point,) but none of them came close to matching Michael's power. He managed to cause with a single thought a blackout that effected most of the Old City, and interfered with global communications between the sanctuaries. That was on powerful young Abnormal, definitely one to keep an eye on, and to befriend.
As he walked down the antique hallway, Declan suddenly changed his mind and turned on his heel, heading to the elevator. Once inside, he pressed the button for the ground floor and waited patiently for the lift to reach its destination. Not thirty seconds later, he walked out and proceeded straight through the main lobby, headed for a small door nestled between two large columns. Declan had walked by the door for years without noticing it before until one day James Watson, his friend and mentor, had mentioned it to him. The door led to a small garden. The garden was nothing spectacular, but it reminded him of the simpler times, when James was the sanctuary Head, and Declan was his right-hand man. Watson had shown him the civilian side of life that Declan had never fully had an opportunity to explore. After Watson's death retrieving the source blood, Declan went out of his way to make sure that the little garden was well-maintained. It was the least he could do for Watson, the man who had changed his life.
With a brief shake of his head, he brought himself back into the present, and pushed the door open. Fresh air brushed across his face and he inhaled, absorbing the smell of wild grass and wildflowers. Zimmerman would never stop teasing him if he found this out, but Declan had a green thumb. Well...a pale green thumb. He enjoyed being able to take a moment to relax in his "sanctuary within a sanctuary," as James had called it. He walked into the sunshine, a rare happening in the UK, and walked over to a small bench that was partially hidden between several large forsythia bushes. With a sigh he sat down and started to read a few reports that he snagged off his desk on his way down, and checked his email on his tablet. There was a message from Smithson about the EM Abnormals. Smithson reported that while the Abnormals had heard rumors about the original offshoot of their species having some of Michael's abilities, they had never heard of one of their kind with all the abilities that Michael displayed. Declan forwarded the email to Magnus. Maybe this could help her narrow down the search for Michael's parents.
He quickly skimmed the rest of the emails and after determining that none of them were urgent, he turned his attention to the reports. None were flagged, so he set them aside for a moment and turned his face towards the sun, letting it warm his face. Beep beep. After waiting for one more moment, he looked down and picked up his phone. There was an message from another field agent, requesting a face-to-face meeting about so red-list dealers who were setting up shop in London. He sent a confirmation, stood up and walked back through the door.
