As he walked past his computer, Declan noticed a new, flagged email sitting in his inbox. Quickly he sat down and opened the email, his frown deepening as he read on. Smithson, his field agent, had managed to track down a tribe of EM Abnormals in Ireland and negotiate a peace. But, they had told him of another Abnormal like themselves, yet different. This Abnormal was a young boy with the ability to piggyback onto electronic signals and manipulate them at will. Smithson managed to track it to the Old City, but had to return to England to deal with some hostile Abnormals that had shown up in the outskirts of London. He recommended that someone check in with the Old City Sanctuary to see if they had been picking up any odd EM signals. Declan quickly forwarded the email to Magnus, with a brief note offering to come and help, if she needed it, finding and potentially subduing the Abnormal. He hoped that she would get a hint and let him, so he could get out of his office and in the field, even for a little while.

A little while later, Declan went back to his computer and began reading through his emails again. He couldn't help but notice that there were no new emails, a novelty during this crisis. Frowning, he picked up the phone and dialed Magnus's number. He needed to talk to her about the signal-disrupting Abnormal. If it was allowed to roam the Old City unchecked, it could do considerable damage to that Sanctuary's communication. The phone began to ring on the other side, then suddenly, static. He put the phone back in its cradle, took his cellphone out of his pocket and dialed the Old City Sanctuary. Nothing but static. He tried to reach anyone he could think of in the Old City, but all he got was static. His concern grew and he raced down to his lab to try and reach Magnus by using the video conference, but still nothing. It was still too early to jump to conclusions, but he decided that he should go to the Old City to find out what was going on.
